Tucked away in a quite street in Hoxton, East London, is superb store Hoxton Street Monster Supplies. Having recently celebrated its first birthday, this unique boutique sells everyday and bespoke goods for ‘the living, dead and undead’. Catering for the daily needs of every imaginable monster, here you will find high-quality monster goods such as a complete range of edible human preserves (thickets human snot anyone?), Zombie Mints, Earwax Bars and Fang Floss.
Some of our favorite products include the tinned scary stories (Escalating Panic and Mortal Terror are particularly popular) commissioned by well-known authors including Zadie Smith and David Nichols. The Awfully Bad Guide to Monster Housekeeping covers a wealth of monster wisdom from housekeeping to fashion, a survival guide for all monster and wannabe monsters out there.
Behind this clever concept store is Ministry of Stories, a creative writing centre for young people in East London, set up by authors Nick Hornby, Lucy Macnab and Ben Payne in 2010. Aiming to inspire a nation of storytellers, this charity encourages children and teens to communicate through the art of storytelling. – Anna Jacobsen
