DARK + DECONSTRUCTED
New York: As part of the “CONCEPT KOREA” exhibition at the New York Public Library, Chung Ku-ho brought his Hexa by Kuho collection to New York Fashion Week. His show made a surprise splash on the snowy first day of fashion week, bringing out some of the top models – Freja, Tao, Rania and new It-girl Lindsey Wixson – and collaborating with legendary photographer Nick Knight on a short film that accompanied the collection. Ku-ho’s deconstructed pieces recalled Rei Kawakubo’s Comme des Garçons aesthetic; blazers were chopped and wrapped into capelets, pants featured multiple waistbands, and jersey tops and dresses were gathered and draped into interesting shapes. While the garments were ultra-directional, the limited palette of black, grey and white made the collection feel more approachable.
