NEW YORK…After the departure of revered artistic talent Helmut Lang from his eponymous label a few years ago, the fashion crowd has been slow to accept new designers Michael and Nicole Colovos, formerly of Habitual. But with much lower price points and steadily solid presentations, Helmut Lang is now much more appropriate for a broader group of juniors. S/S 09 brought a well rounded group of restrained key pieces to the market. Tapered, pleated pants, loose vests, the ubiquitous jumpsuit, graphic mini dresses and tissue weight leather jackets all looked perfectly on-trend, while also bringing a bit of edge to these standard items. For clean, modern inspiration, Helmut Lang is still the label to look towards.
