London Fashion Week kicked off in dramatic style today with Headonism, a showcase of emerging British milliners curated by mad hatter Stephen Jones. Styles ranged from the functional, to the artfully beautiful, to the downright absurd. Soren Bach invented a rabbit fur Princess Leia-style earmuff style to cure the winter blues. A seemingly normal veiled pillbox hat was paired with the latest cheeky accessory must-have — the costume mustache. Some of the more outrageous concoctions included a wig-hat out of ostrich feathers, a Carmen Miranda-inspired helmet made out of painted clusters of mussels, and a headpiece of stacked bras. Giant cherries added a Surrealist pop. Perhaps the most successful results came from Justin Smith, who braided and knitted creamy crochet threads into ropes to create an illusion of nets that ensnared seashells and bits of beach.
