Deep in the heart of the fantastic London vintage shop, The Girl Can’t Help It, lies a lace wiggle dress owned and worn by Marilyn Monroe herself. And what better way to celebrate the 47th anniversary of Marilyn’s serenade to Mr. Kennedy than seeing one of her own enticing cocktail numbers. Yes, 47 years ago today Marilyn sang her famous breathy, birthday song in her Jean Louis rhinestone gown that she had to be sewn into.
I discovered this lace gem in Alfie’s Antique Market during a vintage hunt to the UK. The dress has been officially authenticated and sits on a glowing pedestal for all to admire. Marilyn’s Jean Louis was auctioned of in 1999 for 1.26 million dollars, and while this cocktail dress may not have the famous song associated with it, the body it covered makes it a fairly priceless garment.
