Not only is it officially Amelia Earhart Day, but July 24th was also her birthday. Earhart is the famous female pilot from the 1920s and ‘30s that inspired everyone, not only with her profession but also her fashion. Undeniably, every female aviator influence in fashion has drawn upon the style of this incredible woman. Her mysterious disappearance and death makes this icon all the more interesting and inspirational.
With the biopic movie Amelia, played by Hilary Swank, release date set for October 2009, Earhart’s trademark aviator style may be playing a role in your everyday wardrobe. While designers have constantly used this inspiration, the movie’s beautiful mix of ‘20s feminine fashion with the masculine leathers of the aviation world may be sparking an early 20th century piloting style-revival. Several designers such as Hermes and Gaultier are already preempting the release of the film with their Earhart inspired collections and garments.
