French fashion magazine L’Officiel celebrates its 90th anniversary this month, and to commemorate this milestone they asked 60 fashion designers and major labels ranging from Alber Elbaz to Joseph Altuzarra to select their favorite cover from the archives, which is featured in a supplement to the French edition. We decided to follow suit with our own selection of favorites, featured below, highlighting the shifts in graphic design and gradual switch from illustration to photography since L’Officiel’s inception in 1920. This barely skims the surface though: for those looking to dive deeper into the evolution of L’Officiel, visit the mind-bogglingly thorough online archive, where users can browse any issue of the famed publication. Beware of heart palpitations however, for this jaw-dropping collection will have the most casual of vintage lovers swooning in ecstasy.
Scroll all the way to the bottom to see this month’s Jean-Paul Goude-directed cover featuring none other than Miss Style Rookie herself, Tavi Gevinson. Props girl.
