The Active Team has been following fashion’s take on sport – and vice versa – for sometime now. So, it’s always exciting to see a fresh exchange. This time it comes in part from two people on utterly opposite ends of the spectrum…
Hamish Bowles, Vogue’s European Editor-at-Large and the New York Knicks, top player Amar’e Stoudemire, sat down to talk fashion, and played a game of one-on-one, in the magazine’s April 2011 issue. (Take a guess who won?)
The story showcases not only Stoudemire’s journey through life, it also reveals his opinion on how the fashion industry conducts business, as well as how he felt sitting front row at the Tommy Hillfiger show during NYFW. In the video interview Stoudemire states, “I look at Hamish as a fashion guru with just the way he pronounces himself.” Bowles on the other hand (who we adore here at Stylesight) notes Stoudemire’s dapper attire after one of his games:
“Then he changes into above-the-ankle black jeans, blue suede Nike Air trainers with white and gold accents, a black tee, and a Nike New York Destroyer bomber jacket. To this Fonzian ensemble he adds the insouciant flourish of a chain-link necklace, each link composed of a different tone of pavé diamonds. Although it strikes me as something Lily Safra might choose for lunch at Harry’s Bar, naturally it looks the essence of hip manliness on Amar’e.”

Last year, Bowles also tried his hand at surfing, while interviewing Blake Lively, for an ultra fashion-meets-sports spread, so its safe to say, we are incredibly impressed with his recent efforts!
Bravo to both Stoudemire and Bowles – an unlikely match that was actually made in fashion heaven.
