Paris: Hakaan Yildirim knows how to make an entrance. The Carine Roitfeld-endorsed designer somehow managed to attract top models for what was only his second runway collection. This androgynous presentation was all about extremes – hemlines were either mini or floor length, and cuts either skintight or oversized. Black leather trench coats and sleeveless biker jackets had a “Mad Max” feel to them, and the short Grecian-inspired dresses evoked early Alaia. Like many of his contemporaries this season, Hakaan also referenced the masculine, minimalist tailoring of early Helmut Lang. Baggy, low-waisted trousers were paired with boxy blazers verged on engulfing the models. Sheer tops, feather work, and opulent fur trim injected some glamour into the proceedings and kept things from becoming too clinical. The standout was a shimmering sleeveless mini dress made up of ink-colored shimmering beads. This designer is definitely one to watch.
