An archival manufacturer of denim overalls and work wear, established in the mid 19th century, H.W. Carter & Sons recently released a purist denim range, channeling this golden era of workwear and made to last clothing.
We were excited to see the brand at the last two Vegas Capsule shows and whilst avidly following their blog, discovered this set of photographs in line with the launch of their Carpenter Apron. Worn by artisans and craftsman in their workspaces, the photographs represent the true American spirit and principles of the brand.
As American as apple pie, and in existence for more than half as long as the country itself, H.W. Carter & Sons is a brand with literal ties to the foundations of America. Established in 1859, the company soon became the go-to brand for overalls and workwear used in coal mines, factories and manufacturing plants. With this heritage in mind, the brand is introducing a capsule collection of goods designed by Greg Chapman inspired by their “Watch the Wear” product archive. All of the garments are created with authentic details from the original items and are, naturally, manufactured in the USA.
One of the first pieces H.W. Carter & Sons came across in their archives was a work apron. So in line with the relaunch of the brand under the new trademark of “Carter’s Watch the Wear”, the brand remade this classic piece out of 100% cotton 12 oz. selvedge denim (in genuine indigo, natural, and ticking stripe) from Cone Mills. For the images, Chapman chose his close artisan and craftsman friends including artists, barbers and bartenders to wear the aprons in their respective workspaces. As we think you’ll agree, the photogrpahs bring this classic piece to life, while keeping the spirit and principles of Henry W. Carter alive for today.
