Gucci, Balenciaga, Vetements win big at the Fashion Awards 2016

Gucci and Demna Gvasalia were the headline winners at the Fashion Awards 2016 in London.

The newly named event (formerly the British Fashion Awards), organised by The British Fashion Council, saw Gucci’s creative director Alessandro Michele winning international accessories designer, while the brand’s chief executive Marco Bizzarri won the international business leader award.

Gvasalia for Balenciaga won international ready-to-wear designer, while his Vetements brand also took the international urban luxury brand.

Domestically, Simone Rocha for Simone Rocha won the British womenswear award, Craig Green for Craig Green won the menswear award, Alexander McQueen was brand winner while Molly Goddard won emerging talent.

The international model award went to Gigi Hadid while the ‘New Fashion Icons’ award went to celebrity siblings Jaden and Willow Smith.

The 100 years of British Vogue exhibition won a special recognition award.

Elsewhere, Ralph Lauren received a special award for outstanding achievement in fashion; photographer Bruce Weber took the Isabella Blow Award for Fashion Creator; and Franca Sozzani, editor in chief of Vogue Italia & L’Uomo Vogue, took the event sponsor The Swarovski Award for ‘Positive Change’.

Some 32 ‘creative influencers’ were also recognised during the ceremony for their behind-the-scenes work in the industry, including Camilla Lowther, Camilla Nickerson, Charlotte Tilbury, Glen Luchford, Joe McKenna, Katie Grand, Nick Knight, Patrick Kinmonth, Ronnie Cooke Newhouse and Sam McKnight.

Among the 4,000 guests at the Royal Albert Hall event were Anna Wintour, Carine Roitfeld, Dame Natalie Massenet, David Beckham, Domhnall Gleeson, Gigi Hadid, Joan Smalls, Karlie Kloss, Kate Beckinsale, Kate Moss, Lady Gaga, Lara Stone, Marilyn Manson, Mario Testino, Nadja Swarovski, Naomi Campbell, Salma Hayek Pinault, Skepta, Stella Tennant and Tom Ford.
