Milan: Designer Frida Giannini has honed in on a very specific man for the last few seasons, in keeping with the current interest in the “gypset” (gypsy meets jetsetter) lifestyle. For S/S 11, show notes indicated that haute-hippie icons like the Rolling Stones and Talitha and John Paul Getty Jr. served as inspiration. The London-to-Marrakech look was expressed in ethnic prints and patterns and a spice market color palette, made bourgeois with the inclusion of luxe accessories. Tactile silks, organic cottons and supple suedes added to the overall sensuality. Suits continued to be an important part of Gucci’s collection, but the inclusion of knit underpinnings, signature horse-bit loafers and printed silk neckerchiefs hinted at the bohemian voice of the season.
