Taking a step away from her work at Gucci so far, Frida Giannini sent out a strong collection of active-inspired pieces. The show began in cold white with a dress featuring criss-crossed straps that created important open spaces against the body. Skintight pants with parachute straps running down the sides were topped with windbreakers paneled with mesh insets. The parachute lacing continued onto grey separates; an elaborately laced skirt suit was cinched in with a classic Gucci bridle belt. The middle section of the show brought back the ethnic prints that have characterized Giannini’s tenure at the label, infusing them with metal versions of the athletic straps, whose structure recalled the work of architect Santiago Calatrava. Ending with long, straight evening looks in black, the collection felt powerful and new.
