Great Reset: How heritage watches are redefining the future

Spotted in recent watch collections and trade shows is an emerging trend for contemporary watch design with a heritage mood. Described by the industry as the “great reset,” this new style is generating a unique aesthetic through its amalgamation of the classic timepiece with modern materials and processes.

An interesting side effect of this trend is that it is redirecting the focus of watch design back to traditional mechanics. Most traditional designs were created around various rules designed to promote legibility, comfort, and functionality. For a large period popular watch design shifted to focus on more novelty design that purposely rejected traditional rules for a more fashion focused lifestyle statement. This new trend sees a move away from showiness and a return to a design form dictated by function with the incorporation of modern sensibilities.
