Go For Baroque

Milan…Dolce and Gabbana
From Italy’s dynamic duo, a tale about a girl who falls asleep in her boyfriend’s pajamas and then dreams of the grandeur of a lost age. The new shapes felt reminiscent of those seen at Lanvin last year or at Balenciaga, but didn’t detract. The big, rounded shoulder and sleeve looked so much like Minnie Mouse’s ears that it felt playful and benign. These extremities were underscored by the wonderfully baroque materials, brocades and embroideries. The show ended with a series of dresses made up of flowers on mesh. In times such as these, a show like this is uplifting, no, make that positively joyous.
