In 2016, team WGSN travelled to some 135 trade shows in total, covering continents and taking in some lust-worthy locations, be it Las Vegas, or Lake Como, we had it covered.
As your eyes on the ground and the ones racking up all of those air miles on your behalf, we’re already looking ahead to 2017.
Given the volume of shows that we cover, and the exhibition floors we’ve walked season after season, we’re confident in calling out those that are not to be missed. Whether they are particularly commercial, a hotbed of up-and-coming talent, or one that is all about the hype, our new Global Trade Show Guides give insight into those that we covet and cover. Subscribers can access the full guide on the main site here, definitely one to bookmark.
Here on the WGSN Insider blog, we share a mini selection of the trade shows our editors are super excited to attend and why.
1. Womenswear –
CIFF, Copenhagen, February 1-3
“With some of the strongest collections I’ve seen at trade show level for some time, and a place where I am always discovering new brands, CIFF, and the city of Copenhagen in general sit top of my list to visit season after season.”
Robbie Sinclair – Womenswear Editor
2. Menswear –
Capsule, New York, January 24-26
“Capsule has grown under the acquisition of Reed Exhibitions, but its democratic take on the trade show keeps all exhibitors on the same playing field. Putting emphasis on product instead of showy installations, it’s a show that lets brands’ offerings speak for themselves.”
Jian DeLeon – Senior Menswear Editor
3. Denim –
Desert & Denim, Joshua Tree, February 24-25
“Part trade show, part makers’ festival and part old-fashioned knees-up, in Desert & Denim, we’re looking forward to a summer-camp-style get-together in the desert – a welcome break from the vast exhibition venues and strip lighting of the typical trade show.”
Lourdes Linares – Associate West Coast Denim Editor
4. Footwear & Accessories –
WOMAN, New York, February 23-25
“Having seen the strength of the footwear and accessories brands exhibiting at WOMAN Paris last season we’re really excited to be adding the N.Y.C edition of the show to our seasonal coverage and seeing WOMAN’S edit of U.S. brands.”
Ella Hudson – Senior Accessories & Footwear Editor
5. Print & Graphics
Bright, Berlin, January 17-19
“New for next season, Bright echoes the blurring of subcultures within fashion and introduces another two segments to the floor, including Outdoor Aesthetics (with high-performance styles) and Bright Urban (inspired by hip-hop culture). With a dose from all markets, Berlin is the ideal show to grasp the all-important menswear trends across the spectrum.”
Hannah Watkins – Senior Print & Graphics Editor
6. Beauty –
Luxe Pack, Monaco, October 2-4
“Having historically covered Luxe Pack in New York, for 2017 we’re switching up our coverage to the Monaco installment. It is Luxe Pack Monaco at which we feel the newest packaging innovations are brought to market, with brands designing specifically with this show in mind.”
Theresa Yee – Senior Beauty Editor
7. Kidswear –
Cool Kids & China Licensing Expo, Shanghai, July 18-21
“With such a global spotlight on this region and the news that China’s licensing industry is the fastest growing licensing market in the world, these shows offer a vital area of insight.”
Allison Goodfellow-Ash, Kidswear Editor
