Givenchy F/W 11

Paris: Attention was closely focused on Riccardo Tisci’s collection for Givenchy this season, as the designer’s name has come up as a possible replacement for John Galliano at Dior. Tisci seemed to revel in all the interest, delivering a confident collection that introduced new silhouettes and innovative prints. The opening look was a precise black button-up over a pencil skirt, both emblazoned with panthers’ heads (somewhat similar to the rottweiler motifs he used in his men’s show). Tisci cited Amanda Lear’s album cover for Roxy Music’s For Your Pleasure – in which she leads a black panther wearing skintight black leather – as one of his inspirations. The prints – others featured purple orchids, gold chains and pin-up icon Bettie Page – appeared in different combinations for mixed and matched separates. Sexy pencil skirts and short flounced minis were toned down with relaxed mohair sweaters and varsity jackets. Innovative, eye-catching and full of must-haves, the collection was one of Tisci’s best, proving he could be ready for the hallowed halls of Dior.
