When a Michelin-starred chef opens an ice cream parlor, one might expect stuffiness and pretention alongside some delicious desserts. But when the chef is from the highly-acclaimed and always whimsical El Celler de Can Roca, magical things can happen. Rocambolesc Gelateria in Girona, Spain has just been awarded Best European Bar at the UK and International Restaurant & Bar Design Awards for its Willy Wonka-inspired interior. Complete with candy cane striped tubing and knobs and levers for days, this adorably old-fashioned eatery is always packed with people looking to try one of six rotating flavors complemented by toppings such as cotton candy, butter cookie crumbs, and fresh fruit. No matter how old you are, a visit to Rocambolesc Gelateria is sure to delight and inspire, while satisying your sweet tooth.—Ashley Churchill
