Giorgio Armani

Milan: Giorgio Armani was inspired by the Sahara sky at night for his current collection, with deep blue to black tones representing the heavens. Head wraps, tunics and sheer pajama pants referenced the traditional dress of the region’s nomadic tribes, but Armani’s classic tailoring and limited color palette kept it from looking bohemian. Jackets – including a standout glossy leather version for the opening look – were precise and sophisticated, as to be expected, and pants were slim but not tight and slightly relaxed through the hips. Skirts came in two varieties – short and flared or long and columnar, the short versions worn over the sheer pants for a layered look. The collection closed with glitzier pieces evoking the stars, including a glossy jacquard used for pants and a matching asymmetrical crop top, as well as a parade of gathered evening gowns. With a fully realized inspiration and impeccable execution, this collection was one of Armani’s best in recent seasons.
