London: Last season Giles Deacon’s girl straddled the line between 50s priss and 90s grunge goddess but for fall, the British Fashion Award-winning designer upped the edge quotient with a collection aimed at exploring the dichotomy between aggression and restraint. Like many designers this season, Giles toyed with calf-length skirts but more important were the floor sweeping gowns and skirts, rendered from psychedelic printed silks, sheer lace and luxurious brocades. Corset belts created a dramatic and alluring hourglass shape, while ultra-high necklines offered a modest contrast. Shaggy goat hair skirts and coats added a subtle touch of humor for which Giles has come to be known.
