BIRDS OF A FEATHER
London: Giles Deacon created a fluid, feminine dream for S/S 12, reaching into his subconscious to make confectionary look cool through the use of reflective leather, laser cutting and abstract prints. Becoming an aggressive aviary, models sheathed in cropped trousers, boxy t-shirts and M.C. Escher-style swan graphics took the runway, their slim, bird-like silhouettes accentuated by fantastical headdresses and angled cat-eye glasses. Though primarily pale, Deacon gave his palette some bite by including pops of red and orange, a clear reference to the swan’s bright beak. This consistent tug-of-war between soft and sharp was the main achievement of the Spring collection, one of Deacon, and London’s best. —Nina Stotler
