A GRAB BAG EXPERIMENT
London: For a designer who has indulged in many over-the-top theatrics, including models obscured by enormous swan headdresses, Giles’ S/S 13 presentation was relatively subdued. While the collection continued recent avian themes with feathered photo prints and wing appliqué, Giles also added horses into the mix, emblazoning a voluminous ballgown with a white stallion, a standout piece among this otherwise disappointingly unfocused season. Jumping from simple sateen t-shirt dresses and laser cut leather sheaths to ill-fitting suiting and frothy crystal encrusted cocktail dresses, the looks pinballed through one silhouette after another without ever establishing a consistent mood.—Nina Stotler
