TECHNICAL PROWESS

Milan: Designers Tommaso Aquilano and Roberto Rimondi continued to play with the intricate weaving they introduced for fall, this time making it a focal point rather than a detail. Their first look, on supermodel Karolina Kurkova, showcased the technique, braiding and weaving strips of luxe python into a stunning slim coat and matching skirt. The method was also used for black skater dresses and a standout bronze body-con knit dress. Although the display of craft was certainly entertaining and impressive, sophisticated tailored suits and simple white shift dresses offered a welcome relief from all the technical acrobatics. A series of sequin- and crystal-embellished looks in colorblocked patterns was a highlight, adding glamour and playfulness. Though the duo’s technical feats could become tiresome at times, it was impossible not to be dazzled by their skill.
