LACE + BLOSSOMS
Paris: Giambattista Valli celebrated exquisite couture craftsmanship in a collection that channeled vintage glamour and frothy femininity. Delicate lace and soft blossom appliqués added subtle surface dimension to a series of curvaceous black and white silhouettes — hourglasses, peplums, tulips — that opened the show. Texture play and sculptural detail, lent modernity to classic looks, like a croc shell paired with lace skirt and evening coat featuring an oversized bow neckline. A lovely berry palette was introduced in the form of draped goddess gowns, still waist-centric, that employed one-shoulder pouf sleeves. Emerging at the tail end of the line-up, a trio of photo-realistic floral prints lent an energetic vibe to dramatically voluminous princess gowns. —Anna Jane Davis
