FAIRY TALE TO REALITY
New York: With a collection entitled “Whistle While You Work,” Swaim and Christina Hutson spun a tale inspired by Snow White and her colorful seven dwarfs. The sophisticated storybook palette of greens, blues and rusts was one of the most vivid so far this season, a welcome relief from all the somber darks seen on other runways. Colored jeans and chinos were cuffed and worn with pink socks. A few workwear-influenced pieces like a nylon parka and jump suit, along with gnome-ish knit hats, were slightly heritage-driven but in a fresh way. Even though it was a collection full of basics, the happy yet subtle use of color and forest-y motifs on sweaters and knits made for a refreshingly optimistic and wearable showing.
