Love gemstones and fantasy films? Then Regal Rose could be your new go-to brand

If alternative jewellery and accessories with a fierce edge and a dreamy dark twist is your thing, then look no further than British jewellery brand Regal Rose for all of your gothic needs. I have personally got my eye on the Apothecary Amulet Necklace – Black Agate.

As a gemstone novice I loved discovering jewellery brand Regal Rose, and since the discovery it has fast become the go-to brand to start off my collection. In addition to the beautiful branding, and stand out products, Regal Rose has the best feature I have ever seen online. You choose your favourite pieces, and then enter the email address of your loved ones and voila they get your Christmas list dropped directly into their inbox. (I mean I have sent this to myself to try out – I highly recommend it!)

I spoke to Rebecca Warwick, one half of Regal Rose, for the low down on their new A/W collection.

Tell me about Regal Rose, when and how did you come up with the idea…

Regal Rose was established back in 2009 by my twin sister and I. We started on eBay selling jewellery made from a mix of things we’d found in charity shops and vintage shops and fairs. Finding unusual treasures and getting them for a bargain was something we were naturally drawn to and enjoyed. After a year or so we moved over to our own website. Both of us have Graphic Design degrees, which really helped in the first stages of setting up as a business and a brand. Starting from a small room that fit just the two of us and a small puppy, we now have a studio with 8 staff (and a big dog!). A selection of Regal Rose designs can now be found on ASOS.com and Urban Outfitters too.

Who are your personal style icons? Who do you base your designs on?

We don’t really have any style icons as such, but we admire the style and creative skills of many bloggers. Our designs are inspired by all our personal loves and obsessions such as films like The Labrinth, Legend, Edward Scissorshands. Everything fantasy, especially if it’s got a dark twist. We often find ourselves inspired by old memories and things we totally loved as children; lockets, sparkly things, vintage jewellery, books, nature, Halloween and gemstones!

Social media is huge right now and you have over 150 thousand followers on Instagram, how important is social media to Regal Rose?

It’s very important for us. It’s where we get to show our designs, communicate with customers, collaborate with influencers and collect data. We’re always looking for new influencers to work with and brands to collaborate with to help grow our social media presence.

Tell me about your new A/W collection, where did you get your inspiration from?

Our A/W collection is a range of jewellery and accessories inspired by romanticism and the history of religion. We kept with our signature style of dark ornate detail and incorporated a selection of natural gemstones.

Gemstones feature heavily in your pieces, do you think there has been a rise in this type of jewellery recently at all?

Personally I think gemstone jewellery has always been popular. It’s hard to say whether there has been a recent rise. We have noticed ‘bigger’ and more ‘mainstream’ jewellery brands incorporating gemstones into their products. These brands (some on the high-street) can’t easily get the quality in gemstones that we can. Their huge overheads push them to buy in cheap gemstones. We’re lucky that we don’t share these huge overheads and can put more effort into finding the best stones with the best shine and intrusions.

Is there a most popular item at all in your collection?

There are a few! – our most popular pieces are our Sterling Silver rings and unique hair accessories.

What are your future plans for Regal Rose?

We plan to keep expanding in terms of stockists and have some exciting collections planned all the way up until 2019 so far! – next year you’ll find Regal Rose in Topshop’s flagship store in Oxford Street London!
