Summer in New York is packed full of music festivals, but they are often overwhelming affairs where half-way through, you are wondering around lost trying to work out just where your mates are. Happily, this summer we’re seeing the rise of festivals that are offering something a little more intimate and boutique, and the crew behind Full Moon Music Festival fit right in with that trend.
The festival, which kicks off this weekend on Governors Island, is a music experience aimed at celebrating the style and swagger of New Yorkers. Wondering what this means in practice? It means that the fashion and the music go hand in hand. Having grown from a one-day festival held in pop-up spaces around the city, this year the creative team behind the festival MATTE Projects, have run with the ethos of the festival (installations, global explorers, illustrators, creators, fashion designers etc) and taken it to new heights. This year’s festival features live music from established rappers like PushaT and indie favourites like SBTRKT and Lola Wolf, as well as 3D projections, immersive experiences and installations.
Better yet, for fashion fans, the festival was inspired by the recent trend for tour merchandise and has launched its own clothing merch to celebrate. Embroidered Full Moon t-shirts have been created in partnership with American Two Shot, the retail/art/coffee shop space in New York’s Soho shopping district. Consumers can grab the t-shirts exclusively at the Full Moon merch shack and at the American Two Shot store.
Talking about the collaboration, the American Two shot design team said:
“We just wanted to make some merch that felt more unique than a plain screen printed shirt but was still simple and cool. The shirts were chain stitched by hand in BK on these beautiful old machines, so each one really is special. Kind of an old school name tag vibe happening with the script and placement on the shirts so it’s like everyone who gets one is part of the team or something ❤️”
