Happy New Year from Stylesight’s Graphic team! We recently spotted Nicole Dextras’ amazing frozen type statements while trawling the web for inspiration.
Type is everywhere and sometimes, when taken out of context, it can create a compelling visual statement. Nicola Dextras, a graduate from the Emily Carr Institute of Art Vancouver, has been sculpting and photographing her frozen type statements for several years now. Her typography-based installations are compelling visual art forms that stand out from their harsh natural backdrops.
A clever use of plywood forms helps to cast these powerful eco-sculptures, with letters standing an amazing 7 feet high. Once finished. the installations are photographed and left to the elements.
Nicole Dextras’ ice installations have also been introduced to the urban environment. Parks, sidewalks and streets have all been used as canvases for her work. In these more edgy works the introduction of food coloring to the type structures give added dimension and impact to the installations.
