Football Update!

Since we here on the Active Team are massive football fans, it’s only fitting to stay on top of the latest trends and happenings within the sport. And if that focus happens to bridge fashion and performance together, even better! This season the Philadelphia EAGLES Cheerleaders teamed up with fashion insider Vera Wang — the iconic ready to wear and bridal designer created the team’s uniforms for its 2013 season, and we couldn’t be more excited!

From the EAGLES:

Christina Weiss Lurie, President Eagles Youth Partnership and Eagles Social Responsibility, played an integral role in all aspects of the uniform designs. She expressed, ‘Vera beautifully achieved our vision for the signature pieces with a fashion forward and sporty look that represents our style. We feel the uniforms are ideal for the cutting-edge image of the cheerleaders — chic while displaying athleticism.’

Vera Wang added, ‘It was an honor to create the uniform design that has now become synonymous with the Philadelphia Eagles Cheerleaders. I always embrace the opportuinity to work on extensions of my original creations and enjoyed designing new signature pieces for the beautiful and talented cheerleaders to wear this year.’

In other related football news and on a more serious note….

Both select teams at the college level at the NCAA and all across the NFL have embraced Breast Cancer Awareness Month by donning its athletes in pink uniforms and cleats on the field. The latest team to take the lead are the Oregon Ducks from the University of Oregon.

Nike and the University of Oregon have partnered for many years during the month of October to honor Breast Cancer Awareness. This year, the Ducks’ will wear pink Nike Vapor Talon Elite cleats, pink Nike Vapor Carbon Elite socks and pink Vapor Jet gloves in combination with their black Nike Pro Combat uniform system. In addition, this year the Ducks will punctuate their look with bold pink helmets. The special edition BCA uniforms are designed to raise awareness and funds for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund as the team stands united in their support to help find a cure for women’s cancers.

Play onward and upward this weekend!
