EAT! Design with Food, a new publication by Hamburg based design agency EIGA, celebrates the increasingly prevalent relationship between food, design and art.
54 designers, architects and artists have contributed a series of illustrations and photographs of sculptural marvels and food artwork, to sit alongside a calendar-like week-by-week helping of food happenings, art installations, architectural projects, products and brand design concerned with foodstuff – essentially showcasing how the design and art industries influence food culture and vice versa.
We have noticed an increasing focus on food in design and media, where food is becoming as much an aesthetic reference to engage society with wider social and cultural issues (such as the Phillips Design Probes program), as it is a physiological necessity – affirming for us the changing consumer behaviors towards food and gastronomy.
We look forward to seeing many more publications that celebrate the exciting partnership between gastronomy and design, and how they will continue to influence each other in the coming years.
