Blame it on Instagram, fitness bloggers, or the açai berry, but food bowls have never been hotter. Yes, you heard us right, bowls (packed to the brim with Instagram worthy toppings, acai included ) are the hottest new ‘it’ item in the crockery world.
Here’s three reasons people are ditching plates to make more space for bowls in their kitchen cupboard.
They have the Instagram seal of approval.
Key Instagram influencers will know that a flatlay (taking a shot from up high on a chair) is everything when it comes to good imagery. That’s part of the reason bowls have never been so popular. Bowls are the latest, and best way to present a meal from up high. They are also a key search term on Instagram. The only choice left is whether to fill your bowl with avocado and sunflower seeds or açai berries before you take the snap.

Let’s face it, once you’ve got to work at the crack of dawn, done a full day, hit the gym or just finished drinks with friends, there is no time to sit and prepare a three course meal. Bowls are the answer, throw in what’s in your fridge and cupboard, boil some rice and pasta to add on top, and present it beautifully in a bowl, before scoffing it down.
They are the T-shirt of the crockery market- the new, classic staple.
“The bowl is like the T-shirt of the crockery market,” Carla Busazi, WGSN Global Chief Content Officer told The Guardian recently. “It goes with absolutely everything, and in a day and age when we’re always clutching our smartphones, it’s very easy just to have a bowl in the other hand.”
