At WGSN, we’re keeping a close eye on disruptive brands that are scaling up, diversifying their offerings, and moving into new spaces.
Playing on maximalist footwear, Belgian cult label FILLES A PAPA has launched its first shoewear collection, and it’s ticking several trend boxes for the fast-approaching A/W 19/20 season.
“We’re certainly seeing a rise of tongue-in-cheek bad taste vibes,” says WGSN Trend Editor, Alice Gividen. “Thigh-high looks, Swarovski-studded detailing and all-over denim – the FILLES A PAPA collection taps into consumer appetite for y2k-inspired looks, and holds real Insta-appeal.”
While this collection signals a shift in the brand’s offering, the shoes are centred around the flagship materials and prints of Powershift, the brand’s A/W 19/20 collection. For brands, it’s a lesson in diversifying product while still maintaining a strong brand identity.
“The WGSN highlight? Thigh-high denim boots!” says Trend Editor, Polly Walters. “With all things Americana showing no signs of slowing down, we’re backing iterations of the cowboy boot into the autumn, and we love this high-impact version, giving the style a real 2019 stamp.”
With brash and bold aesthetics, Carol and Sarah Piron are certainly a sister design-duo to watch.
