Field Day Festival 2017: 5 Things Not to Miss

The UK festival season is officially in full swing and here at WGSN we are kicking things off with a visit to East London’s favourite cutting-edge event: Field Day Festival 2017. Expect an influx of emerging DJs, alternative music veterans and a serious dose of finger-on-the-pulse fashion, as our lucky editors Joanne Thomas and Emily Cater head to the event this Saturday 3rd June to report on all things street style related. If you’re not revved up enough already (I can practically smell the gourmet burger vans from here), then here are 5 reasons we think you should be:

1/ The impeccable line up

We know your ‘Field Day 2017’ playlist practically has holes in it from all the listening, so you don’t want to miss the festival’s headline acts while you’re in the queue for the loo. Spend the afternoon floating around the many DJ tents but make sure you’re poised at the mainstage arena from 6:30pm to see the likes of Nicolas Jaar, Nina Kraviz and Aphex Twin. Check out the full line up here.

2/ The Barn

Obviously one main stage is never enough so we get to see the launch of the event’s second indoor arena “The Barn” this year. Have your ear-mufflers and sunnies at the ready as this gigantic hangar-like construction is rigged one extremely high-powered sound system and features one of the most advanced lighting rigs around. We’ll be there to test out the bass during Moderat’s set at 4:20pm.

3/ Village Mentality

The festival’s infamous Village Green is host to “Village Mentality” for 2017. And with the event in its 11th year and now in double figures, this year’s games are themed around the idea of doubles. Of course the festivities will be alternative so expect double decker tug of war, twin set 3 legged racing and a mirrored relay race, and of course an eating contest at 3pm.

4/ East End Refreshments

Naturally no East London festival would be complete without an array of street food vendors, craft beer tents and frozen cocktail bars. STREET FEAST remains the food headliner while Venn Street Market returns for its 7th consecutive year and offers a tantalizing medley of cuisines from around the globe. We’ll be sure not to miss Le Bun for one of their French-American fusion burgers.

5/ Street Style

Expect an eclectic mix of looks from juniors’ through to experienced Field Day-goers as we’ll be on hand to capture the most experimental looks from the day.
