Fendi combines fashion and architecture with a ’70s spin

Milan: Karl Lagerfeld drew his inspiration from the famous Palazzo della Civilta de Chiricos and the metaphysical paintings from the years just before the turn of the century. This collection showcased the exquisite craftsmanship and attention to detail that exists within the house of Fendi. With an articulate reference to the seventies, silhouettes were treated to sculptural and spliced details. 3-D appliqué of the Orchid – the flower gracing the beautiful stylized prints – was used in the form of leather hair ties, appliquéd on to leather boxy jackets and shorts, split skirts and printed on short and sexy trapeze shifts. Fluid, ankle length, knife-pleated organdy skirts also came with added stripes at the hem. This was the most modern statement for the Spring Summer season thus far. – Lizzy Bowring
