Feminine Utility at Marissa Webb

New York: A borrowed from the boy’s aesthetic is often prevalent within a Marissa Webb collection – the contrast of masculine and feminine works well for her and she often draws inspiration from people she knows. For resort, military photographs of her Grandfather from the 1940’s influenced the line up: Army green utility jackets were cinched at the waist with a double bustle, a detail which repeated itself on versatile trench dresses and cargo vests in dusty pink linen– Webb’s own feminisation of the utilitarian silhouette. Webb has a knack for customising commercial classics; shirtdresses came in exquisite lace with oversize military pockets whilst cargo pants boasted pater-bag-waists and exposed gold zippers. It’s these sort of special details which elevate Webb’s collections and make her clothes feel oh-so-special. – Anna Ross
