London: Sister-duo Annette and Dani Felder’s affinity for leather is no secret, and the material has played a crucial and defining role in their past few collections. This season was no exception, and their inspiration, as cited in their show notes, was “a rebellious downtown girl fascinated by the free-spirited 60s era of Easy Rider, The Trip and Lizard King, Jim Morrison.” Despite the iconic references, the unruly rock-and-roll attitude emerged in a less obvious way when it came to the actual clothes. For the first time, the sisters really delved into color, mixing up bright shades of fiery red, deep cobalt and hot pink. Leather was used in new and creative ways – slitted and twisted, or covered in tulle tufts for a feather-like effect. Their signature corseted bra tops paired with high-waisted leather pants and flippy femme skirts looked fresh, but bright rash-guard-inspired tops were perhaps a bit too reminiscent of Proenza Schouler’s iconic S/S 10 surfer girls. Finally, a few drape-y, sparkly numbers added a glamorous finish to the tough yet upbeat collection.
