In true Normcore form, Danskos emerge within menswear, utilizing the iconic comfort clog to make no fashion statement at all; just as intended. (Normcore: A subculture based on conscious, artificial adoption of things that are in widespread use, proven to be acceptable, or otherwise inoffensive. Ultra-conformists). Danskos serve as a seasonal evolution to summer comfort styles (ie. Adidas slides and Birkenstocks), building upon the current “anti-fashion” styling movement. Over 20 years old and without a genre of association, the silhouette serves as a timeless basic inspired by historic Dutch clogs, and was never designed to be “in fashion” (which would imply a lifespan). As for the particular Young Men’s demographic adopting the style as of late- will they be the first to treat it as trend? It’s hard to say for how long it will peak their interest, but it’s a safe bet for Fall/Winter 2014.
