It was hard to pay attention to anything other than Meryl Streep’s speech last night at the Golden Globes, as the actress was celebrated for her long acting career taking home the Cecil B. Demille Award.
The background to this groundbreaking night, was the fashion, which seems apt since one of Meryl’s most poignant roles was that of the editor-in-chief of Runway magazine in the celebrated Devil Wears Prada.
So what did the fashion have to say for itself, well it was all about metallics, from all over shimmer, to subtle metallic details.
This key womenswear theme, is inspired by the transseasonal S/S17 catwalk messages, silver shine dominates the metallic surfaces, while fringing, fil coupé and elongated topstitch sequins achieve enticing movement and volume for simplified daytime pieces as well as eveningwear, applied to understated silhouettes for a contemporary edge, while oversized studs and beads create three-dimensional armour-like embellishment with a tough-luxe character.
