New York…Donna Karan
“Liquid Assets,” was the name Donna Karan gave to her show which perfectly summed up a collection that made good use of glossy fabrics like charmeuse and satin jersey. Shapes were mostly dresses that were gathered and draped, often showing acres of skin in all the right places. Sometimes there were jackets with strong shoulders that added a masculine touch to the slinky underpinnings. The color palette was made up of soft and muted neutral shades of grey and taupe interjected with gold, citron and a clear shade of blue. Donna Karan has always made desirable clothes for “real” women and this season’s offering is no exception.
and rounding out the week,
New York…Ralph Lauren
A delightful expedition that crossed khaki safari looks with an homage to YSL in his Moroccan period. In a week that has been all about the harem pant, his were arguably the best, shimmering along the runway like liquid gold. The accessories also called for attention, various men’s hats, great big bags and massive head wraps.
