New York…Duckie Brown
Designers Daniel Silver and Steven Cox cocooned many of their models in layered fabrics, leaving only the eyes visible. The point was to show how the men of F/W 09 have their eyes focused on the future, a thought also obviously on the minds of the Duckie Brown designers as they continue to be one of the most directional collections out of New York each season. While most of the items sent down the runway had their roots in traditional tailoring, like somber overcoats, leather-trimmed suits and straight-fitting trousers, the expected whimsy came through in the from of ninja-inspired styling like extreme knit caps, a vinyl trench coat, and stiff fabrics. The construction site orange was the only pop from an otherwise black and grey palette. Functional trims like knee pads and multiple zippers helped to inject the designers’ humor back into the traditional silhouettes.
