Andy Knight has become one of the key bloggers for the denim market, sharing his passion and wealth of knowledge of denim through his infamous blog, Denimology. The blog has become a one-stop destination for daily denim news, celebrity style watch, industry trends and style updates. The site is a bible to the celebrity conscious crowd addicted to hunting the jeans their favorite celebs are wearing. Along with up to the minute information on the stars and their denim, the site also offers an expansive online store that sells over 10,000 styles of women’s and men’s premium denim jeans from brands including 7 For All Mankind, Citizens Of Humanity, J Brand and Paige.
We asked Andy to take time out of his busy schedule to tell us a little more about Denimology, his inspirations, icons, current obsessions and future trend predictions.
What led you to start the Denimology blog and when did you post your first piece?
I have always loved denim since I used to bunk off school back in the 80s and come down to London to buy vintage Levi’s from Kensington Market. Back in 2006 I was looking to buy some jeans online, I could find lots of sites selling denim but no one writing about it. So I figured there was a gap in the market and started Denimology.
What did you do prior to Denimology? Did you work in the industry in another capacity?
I have worked in online media since 1997.
How many people work for the blog and from what cities?
Other than myself, we have two full time bloggers and a network of six contributors who are based in London, New York, Florida and LA.
What’s your main aim for Denimology- is it to help girls to buy the right jean or find the right brand for them? Get people inspired and excited about denim?
We aim to provide stylish, sexy, fun and entertaining content that will help people choose the right denim for them.
What do you think it is that makes people so obsessed with denim?
Denim is unlike any other fabric because it has soul. Your jeans become a second skin and the way they age and fade over time will be totally unique to your body. Plus they make your bum look good.
You cover a lot of celebrities on the site: who’s your favorite celebrity icon of all time?
I can’t choose one, so here’s a list – James Dean, Steve McQueen, Marlon Brando, Kate Moss and Alexa Chung.
What denim trends do you love right now and what do you think’s going to be key for F/W 12?
I am loving all the printed denim that has been around this summer and I expect to see plenty more of that for winter, along with camoflage, glitter, metallic, reptile print, leather coated and waxed denim.
