Milan: Kean Etro drew on a world’s worth of influences for his recent collection, showing imagery as disparate as Celtic knot graphics and tiger stripe trim. Fur and shearling were everywhere, on bomber jackets, overcoats, scarves, and even popping from bags. Colors were explosive, mixing eggplant, mustard, chocolate, and midnight blue – often in one garment, such as richly patterned overcoats or blazers that evoked nothing so much as Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.  The Celtic knot motif was Etro’s most widespread pattern, but it vied for attention with Islamic-style geometrics, oversized windowpane checks in outsize colors like magenta and orange, and even graphics appearing to depict the wild and endangered Przewalski’s horse. In all, Etro’s latest collection spoke to the importance of getting one’s feet dirty, while trekking on the true terra firma of a world increasingly shrunk by technology. —Andrew Luecke
