The Active Team at Stylesight would like to say Happy Birthday to everyone at Etnies footwear! 25 years ago, on this very day, owner and founder Pierre-André Senizergues, took a grand leap and began one of the biggest names in skateboarding to date; organically segueing into Sole Technology, housing brands Emerica, éS Footwear, ThirtyTwo and Altamont.
In honor of the special day, Senizergues, a former pro skateboarder himself, hand-picked three creative minds from the brand’s history – Gil Le Bon Delapointe, Mike Manzoori and Yogi Proctor – to create compelling concepts that demonstrate what living, moving and thinking could look like if “Skateboarding was the primary form of transportation and recreation – in and out of your home. The PAS House (pictured below) is a glimpse into the future that shows what the NEXT 25 years may look like when combining the powerful influence of skateboarding with a dwelling place.” The artists’ pieces are on display at La Gaîté Lyrique Public Domaine – skateboard culture exhibition from today through August 7.

In other Etnies news, we happened to see first hand the brand’s sponsored FSC wood skate ramp, in collaboration with Greenpeace, during the 2011 Glastonbury music festival in England. Sponsored riders Barney Page and Caradog Emanual from Etnies along with Nicky Howells from éS, were on hand to skate with anyone who wanted to drop into the ramp. Page and Emanual both sported their Jameson 2 eco shoes which are produced from recycled bike tires, rubber gloves, plastic bottles and heavy canvas cotton. Initiatives like the ones presented by Etnies remind the public, and the industry, that Sole Technology is well on its way of becoming completely green by 2020. Well done Etnies! – Jessica McMenamin
