In case you hadn’t already heard, Supreme had the grand unveiling of its latest lookbook earlier this week. The showcase is the biggest and most anticipated event in the streetwear calendar, drawing a feverishly hyped hysteria across the Internet with Insta-feeds and blogs flooded with the love and hate that makes the brand the most talked about label season after season.
With the SS17 lookbook out in full, the WGSN denim team was quick to check out what the streetwear brand is offering in terms of denim, which is a regular each season.
Whether we’ll actually get our hands on them or not, here’s the WGSN editorial team’s favourite pieces from Supreme SS17.
This piece was the first preview for SS ’17 and takes reference from vintage Marlboro man commercial. The denim zip-up silhoutte nods to Lee’s famous 1920s LOT 91-B jacket with blouson style collar, twin patch pockets and zip detailing. The original cowboy artwork by photographer Jim Krantz who had previously worked on advertisements for Marlboro, as well as other major works throughout the 90s where he had been documenting the cinematic vistas of the American West and its people with his camera.
666 Denim Trucker Jacket and Jeans
According to Supreme insta bible Supreme Copies, the artwork for the ‘666,’ series is inspired by motor oil company ‘STP.’ The company, founded in 1953, has released many all over style t-shirts dating back to the 1960s. Supremes ‘666,’ oval red logo more closely resembles the newer STP signature, with blue accents and a bolder font. What really sold me for this inspiration is the middle ‘6,’ and ‘Ts,’ middle enlargement. The style is available in both black and brown with matching pants for the full set.
Studded Denim Trucker Jacket
Any denim heads will have noticed that this jacket silhouette, along with many of Supreme’s other denim jackets, is a take on Lee’s Rider jacket. For SS17 the brand gives the classic style a decorative western update via contoured studs along the seams. Available in washed black and stonewash, this will no doubt be on the hit-list for many people this season.
Denim Logo Chore Coat
More prints come in the form of this all over logo print denim jacket. The chore coat is a favourite for Supreme season on season, based off classic workwear styles with boxy fit and multi-patch pockets. The signature red box logo tab works as a nice reference to Levi’s looks, while seafoam green and vivid red colourways give a contemporary update to this archival classic.
Washed Denim Jeans
Each season the brand releases a variation of jean styles, from raw selvedge looks through to more fashion washes as featured above. This season the brand sticks to its solid 501 style regular straight fit with small details like star logo branding on back pockets. The leopard print and purple overdye will no doubt be for the more daring preme heads.
Denim Logo Painter Short
Stripe Denim Shirt
Like the chore coat, this workshirt style has references to classic blue collar style with hickory stripe weave and twin patch pockets. Short sleeves and branded embroidery on the rear bring this style off the worksite and onto the streets.
Rigid Slim Jeans
For the more discerning denim customer, Supreme offers a raw denim selvedge programme. Its most famous was its collab with A.P.C. back in ’09, and off the success of that series the brand has continued to run a Japanese selvedge offering, like this rigid 14OZ classic 5-pocket style with red leather patch on the back.
Washed Denim S Logo 6-Panel
A relatively new style for Supreme, this S logo style has become a hit the last 4 seasons since its launch appearing in various iterations such as twill, wool, corduroy and now various shades of denim for SS17. This way, if you’re a truly hardcore denim fan you can drop triple denim on top of your Texas tuxedo.
