New York…Richard Chai
The underlying theme of most of the F/W 09 collections thus far has to do with protective armor and tailored warriors. Showing menswear for the first time, Richard Chai, was no exception. A “cozy uniform” for the future was what he claimed to be inspired by for the season, and it certainly showed in the form of cashmere peacoats with metal trims and heavily ribbed double-faced cardigans with exaggerated zippers. The midnight navy and chemical green colors made for excellent accents to the many grey-based clothes. There were many plays on layering with cropped outerwear shown over top of elongated, slinky knits. Yes, the details and trims were hard-edged and sometimes a bit punk, but the luxurious, soft fabrics and sophisticated colors made for a heavenly marriage.
