New York: Model, it-girl, and designer Erin Wasson has mastered the art of the personal brand. In only her fourth season designing for the surf and skate label RVCA, she has managed to garner a powerful press and celebrity following, evidenced by the key journalists and pop stars sitting in the front row, or rather, front carpet. Held at the capacious ABC Carpet and Home, the vibe was ambient and somewhat exotic, as the crowd perched atop stacks of ornate rugs sipping champagne. While much of the pre-show buzz surrounded singer Ke$ha’s jaw-dropping pantsless look, once the event began, the focus turned to the clothes which stayed close to Wasson’s personal bohemian, rock-inspired aesthetic. The mostly white palette became somewhat underwhelming, but the mix of flowing 70s dresses juxtaposed with slouchy 90s basics represented a keen awareness of the forces driving the younger end of the market.
