Art & Design: TEST Presents… Martine Rose and The Four Aces story

This Thursday, emerging London-based designer Martine Rose will co-host the upcoming Test Presents film screening at Hackney’s Town Hall Hotel, Legacy in the Dust: The Four Aces Story.

Scheduled alongside Menswear Fashion Week this season, Rose will discuss the documentary’s influences on her own life and fashion career, after a preview of her Test fashion film for S/S 13.

Winstan Whitter’s candid piece documents the rise and fall of this infamous East End club, which opened in 1966 and closed during the mid-nineties – ultimately making way for the Olympics and regeneration of the area. Founded by Jamaican-born Newton Dunbar, the venue played host to artists such as Jimmy Cliff, Desmond Dekker and The Clash, also attracting music icons including Bob Dylan and Chrissie Hynde to the space.  The Four Aces later became a rave venue for Acid House during the mid and late 1980s.

“My early fashion influences were very much wrapped up with music and this film really evokes these memories,” explains Rose to Test on her film choice.

Limited tickets can be purchased on the Test site, and if you are in London this summer be sure to check out other happenings at the Town Hall Hotel.  You can see more from emerging designer Martine Rose on the British Fashion Council’s website.
