Always on the lookout for new denim brands, we were surprised to come across Companion Denim the other week as they are from Barcelona: a city known for its casualwear vibe, but not necessarily for their purist denim scene. Well it looks like Companion Denim Co might be about to spearhead that scene in Spain.

The brand has been set up by a nameless industry specialist, and from our extensive googling, someone who would prefer to remain anonymous. He grew up around denim for most of his life, his father owning a wash house and his life revolving around indigo from an early age.

“As a kid, I spent afternoons and summers playing among pumice stone, raw jeans and indigo waters”

He went on to work with many fast-fashion brands before becoming exasperated with the throwaway side of the industry. Founded just this year, the Companion is all about the opposite: a long-lasting product that stands the test of time:

“Companion Denim is a brand faithful to the values of quality, durability, honesty, respect for the environment,  and to the aesthetics of clean and minimal subtlety. Straight to the core of denim pureness, the denim itself, the jeans as they should be”

What with Denim by Premiere Vision moving to Barcelona from next season, we’re hoping that a new and vibrant industry starts to blossom in this beautiful city. We’ll definitely be keeping an eye on Companion and the growing denim market out in Barcelona.
