Paris: Compared to Elie Saab’s previous work, Pre-Fall was downright restrained with nary a windblown chiffon train or slashed neckline in sight. Monochrome ensembles in cosmetic nudes opened the presentation, establishing the molded, body conscious silhouette which defined the season with paneled cap sleeve sheath dresses, round shouldered cashmere capes and tailored tuxedos. Whether above the knee or hitting the floor, dresses hugged the figure, enhanced by stacked peplum folds, contrast piping, and one shoulder construction with clean lines unusual for this designer. However, Saab’s red carpet customers will not be disappointed; square neckline gowns came embellished with plenty of elegant tonal sequins, most dramatically in a lovely ice blue sure to stand out among the crowd.—Nina Stotler
