Paris: It’s not often the world’s fashion industry whoop, cheer and scream, but that’s exactly what happened at Jean Paul Gaultier’s final ready-to-wear fashion show – all turned out en masse to pay homage to one of the most celebrated designers of our time. Gaultier hosted a beauty pageant, complete with acts of his most famous work – Miss Smoking, Lucha Libre – with the biggest names in modeling – Jessica Stam, Joan Smalls, Karlie Kloss et al, sporting conical bras, bustiers, sequins, metallic leather and signature tailoring, accompanied by an equally iconic soundtrack of Prince, Grace Jones and naturally – Madonna. This wasn’t so much about the trends per se – though 90s branding and sports were both strong stories, but more about a celebration of his work, and a fun one at that. ‘Un spectacle’ would be an understatement. – Elle Hankinson
